Who is ColCHESSter?
ColCHESSter – Chess in Colchester – is the branding of a website and an initiative to promote chess in Colchester. Currently, it is a personal initiative of and funded by David York, who can be contacted on info@colchesster.org.uk.

No personal data is kept in relation to visiting this website. Specifically, this website does not use cookies to track personal data. Before March 2024, this website offered a contact form facility as an alternative to contacting ColCHESSter by email. The data collected in that way has been treated as if it were received by email.

When visitors to this website contact ColCHESSter through email or through event registration websites, the data shown in the email is collected (ie email address, name/signature, text, images and any attachments).
Email correspondence is retained for the period during which it is expected to be useful for email correspondence etc.

Child protection, safeguarding and safe play
ColCHESSter acknowledges a duty of care to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people aged up to 18 years and is committed to ensuring safeguarding practice reflects statutory responsibilities, government guidance and complies with best practice. Accordingly, ColCHESSter aims to comply with or exceed the policies and procedures adopted from time to time by the English Chess Federation (ECF).

On 31 March 2025, the ECF issued a revised safeguarding policy and a safe play policy. These are relevant to all, not just minors. The documents may be accessed via links in the above ECF web page.
