The ColCHESSter website announced the first public appearance of the campaign as follows:
ColCHESSter is having a ‘soft launch’ (think rubber champaign bottle) at the New Town Community Day on 17 September. Come and play some chess. Come and find out about a Colchester chess hero, about places to play and the start of a campaign to bring public chess tables to Colchester, like these:
ColCHESSter will be easy to find at the Community Day, so come along for some chess and perhaps get involved in what ColCHESSter is trying to do?

Immediately after the event, the website was updated:
WOW! what a great day today in The Rec! I met lots of people and lots of chess was played – at one stage I had to add a sixth table/board to seat everyone. Thanks to members of the Colchester Chess Club and the Colchester Junior Chess Club who came along. But mainly thanks to the enthusiastic players enjoying chess in the sunshine. And a round of applause for the organisers of the day please – can’t wait for next year.

In October, ColCHESSter has been playing chess and researching chess in Colchester. A start has been made on a new section of this website listing places to play and this page will soon stop acting like Facebook because ColCHESSter will be using the real thing, as well as Twitter, to update on progress. A recent highlight has been fact-finding missions to Rowhedge, including the The Harris Rally 2022 and a walk back along the reopened river path. See if you can spot the chess table!
